The short answer

How is a hybrid priced?

Model, trim and age set the starting point. On a hybrid, battery health and service history then count for more than the mileage, and a plug-in is priced on its bigger battery and its cable. A real valuer checks your reg by hand and sends a firm offer, with free UK collection and no buyer fees. Paid in full by bank transfer before your vehicle leaves.

Two kinds of hybrid

Self-charging or plug-in.

Self-charging hybrid

The petrol engine and braking recharge the battery, so there is no cable and no charge port. Most Prius, Corolla, Auris, Yaris and C-HR hybrids, and most Lexus hybrids, work this way. Tell us the exact model and trim.

Plug-in hybrid

A bigger battery you charge from a socket, with a stretch of electric-only driving. The Prius Plug-in, RAV4 Plug-in, C-HR Plug-in and Lexus NX 450h+ are examples. Say it is a plug-in when you ask for an offer, and keep the charging cable with the car.

Battery health

What buyers check on a hybrid.

Warning lights

Buyers look for a clean dash once the car is in ready mode. A hybrid system warning does not stop a sale, but tell us about it up front so it is priced in, not found later.

Battery health

A hybrid health check from a Toyota or Lexus service gives a written view of the battery. If you have one, or any battery replacement receipt, send it with your enquiry.

How it drives

Smooth pull away on electric power, the engine starting and stopping cleanly, and no unusual fan noise from the battery cooling vent. On a plug-in, the electric range shown after a full charge.

The 12 volt battery

A flat 12 volt battery is the most common reason a hybrid will not start. It is a small fix, and it is not the same thing as the hybrid battery.

Service history

Why the service book matters more on a hybrid.

A stamped book, invoices or a dealer app record show the car was looked after, and a hybrid health check on file speaks for the battery. Gaps are fine, just tell us. Bring what you have on collection day, including any battery or inverter work.

The process

How selling your hybrid works.

  1. Type your reg and mileage, and say whether it is self-charging or plug-in.
  2. A real valuer reads your answers and sends a firm offer.
  3. We call ahead and collect free, anywhere in the UK, or you drop it off.
  4. Paid in full by bank transfer before your vehicle leaves.
  5. The price holds if the vehicle is as described. Any change is explained first, and you can say no.

Common questions

Hybrid FAQs.

Do you buy every Toyota and Lexus hybrid?+

Yes. Prius, Corolla, C-HR, Yaris, Yaris Cross, RAV4, Auris and Camry, and Lexus hybrids such as the UX, NX, RX, IS, ES and CT. Self-charging or plug-in, any age or mileage.

Is high mileage a problem on a hybrid?+

Not on its own. Toyota hybrid systems are known for long lives, so service history and battery health usually say more than the mileage. We price the whole car, not the odometer.

My hybrid battery has been replaced. Does that matter?+

Yes, in a good way, if you can show it. Keep the receipt or invoice and say who did the work. A documented replacement is part of the history we price.

What should I hand over with a plug-in?+

The charging cable or cables that came with it, both keys, the V5C and the service book or app record. A missing cable is not a deal breaker, but tell us up front.

Selling to us, whichever model

How quickly will I hear back after I submit my reg?+

A real valuer reads your submission and comes back with a firm offer within 2 working hours. There is no instant figure on the site, because a person prices the car rather than a form.

How long does the offer stand?+

Your offer holds for at least 72 hours, and the exact expiry date is printed on the offer itself. If it lapses, ask and we re-quote with current figures.

Do you collect, and does collection cost anything?+

We come to you anywhere in the UK at no charge, at a time you choose. If you would rather drop the car at our Bethnal Green office, that is fine too.

When and how do I get paid?+

Paid in full by bank transfer before your vehicle leaves. The car is checked, you accept, and the full amount is sent before it leaves you. No buyer fees, no admin fees. The price holds if the vehicle is as described. Any change is explained first, and you can say no.

What do I need to have ready on the day?+

The V5C logbook in your name, photo ID, both sets of keys and your UK bank details. Bring the service history and any finance settlement letter if you have them.
