Gen 2 (XW20, 2003-2009)
The first widely-adopted Prius. NiMH battery, 1.5L petrol hybrid drivetrain. Euro 4, so not clean-air-zone compliant in central London, but strong continental-export demand keeps prices honest.
Typical condition: 180,000-280,000 miles. Clean examples increasingly rare.
Gen 3 (XW30, 2009-2015)
The hybrid workhorse. 1.8L petrol hybrid, NiMH (or rare Li-ion), Euro 5 then Euro 6 from 2013. Best-balanced economy + reliability of the four generations. The Gen 3 hybrid battery is famously durable.
Typical condition: 150,000-240,000 miles. Plenty of good used stock.
Gen 4 (XW50, 2015-2022)
Lithium-ion battery option (still NiMH on most), redesigned chassis, Euro 6, clean-air-zone compliant from day one. Plug-in hybrid variant with 30-mile EV-only range arrived 2017, priced as a separate trim because of running-cost economics.
Typical condition: 100,000-200,000 miles. The most common used Prius today.
Gen 5 (XW60, 2023+)
The current Prius, only available as a plug-in hybrid in the UK, no straight hybrid trim. Larger battery, redesigned cabin, premium positioning. Limited used supply so far because of the higher entry price; resale strong because of scarcity.
Typical condition: under 50,000 miles. Nearly-new stock.

How much do you actually pay for a Prius?+

What about the plug-in hybrid Prius?+
Plug-in Prius (Gen 4 and Gen 5) carry separate value because of the larger battery. We price the plug-in variant explicitly, so make sure to declare it in the valuation flow and the offer reflects it.
Hybrid battery has been replaced, does that matter?+
Positively. A documented battery replacement (especially Toyota OEM) extends the saleable life by 5+ years and we account for it in the offer. Independent rebuilds also valued, bring the receipts on collection day.
Will you buy my Prius with a hybrid battery warning?+
Yes. A hybrid system warning on the dash does not stop the sale. Tell us about it in the valuation flow and bring any diagnostic report you have, so the fault is priced in up front rather than found at collection.

Paid in full by bank transfer before your vehicle leaves. The car is checked, you accept, and the full amount is sent before it leaves you. No fees to you, admin or otherwise. The price holds if the vehicle is as described. Any change is explained first, and you can say no.
What do I need to have ready on the day?+
The V5C logbook in your name, photo ID, both sets of keys and your UK bank details. Bring the service history and any finance settlement letter if you have them.
